Manchester
Men and Ladies took their respective BUCS titles last weekend in Walsall.
Men’s Competition
Led
by captain Ali Fatkin, Manchester managed two wins and a draw in the four way
round robin final which was enough to take the title.
They opened with a comfortable 17-8 win over Cambridge followed by a 16-9 win against Birmingham. This set up a decider with Bristol who had also won their previous two games. Manchester started slowly and found themselves 5-9 down with time running out. Knowing that a draw would be enough, due to their superior goal difference, Manchester dug deep pulling it pack to 10-10 and taking the title.
As special mention should go to Manchester’s Chris Gilbertson who seemed unstoppable at centre forward and deservedly received man of the tournament.
Ladies Competition
Manchester
Ladies proved beyond doubt that they were the best team in this year’s
competition after taking victory in all 3 of their round robin final games. These
results were 12-8 against Edinburgh, 11-9 against Bristol and 16-10 against
Cardiff.
